Louise Morris

I  prefer to escape the tyranny of the rectangle and to take tapestry off the wall.

Sometimes I don’t.

Tapestry weaving is a very slow art in a world that wants to rush; willful construction in protest against chaos; loving attention in place of endless distraction.

I am drawn to standing stones and ‘thin places’; places of human connection and interaction transcending current belief systems and creeds.

I gained a BA in Mixed Media Textile Design from De Montford University in 2009, and an MFA in Tapestry and Textile Art at West Dean College / University of Sussex in 2011, winning the Valerie Power Prize. I have enjoyed residencies in a library, a clock museum, and two cathedrals.

My research interests sit at the intersection of grief, art, and landscape; I am happy to talk for hours on the subject.
